Technology
Mobility itself and the use of mobile technology in companies are often only viewed from a technical perspective. Actually, mobility is not primarily a technical but an organizational problem.
In addition to the mobility of employees two further categories have to be considered: the mobility of any kind of devices like vehicles, machines or specialized tools and the mobility of goods, parts or materials, no matter whether this concerns single or packaging units.
Mobile employees or mobile workplaces located on the company´s premises are preferably supported with local area network (LAN) technologies, especially wireless LAN according to the standard IEEE 802.11. Otherwise wide area network (WAN) technologies are relevant.
For the mobility of goods, however, primarily personal area network (PAN) technologies especially RFID (radio frequency identification) are used. The field of application for devices is very heterogeneous. According to its use case, it can be either supported by WAN, LAN, or PAN technologies.
By using mobile technologies for the integration of mobile employees, devices or goods and products mobile business processes can be mapped electronically. These are called mobile-integrated business processes.
